Curriculum Subcommittee

The following members were present:  Susan Lopes, Chairperson, Dana Cutter, Michael Pise and Mary Beth Costello

Absent was: Vice-Chairperson, David Barsalou

Also present were Richard W. Rege, Sharon Nawrocki, Denise Ruszala, Karen Turmel, Deborah Wandas Socha and Jeannette DeForge

Call To Order:

The meeting was called to order by Chairperson, Susan Lopes, at 7:02 PM.

1.         Approval of Minutes

VOTED:  On motion by Mrs. Costello to approve the minutes of the Curriculum Subcommittee held on January 9, 2007.           

Hand vote – 4 present in favor – 1 absent - and the motion PASSED.

2.         Health Curriculum

The topic of the Health Curriculum was discussed at length.  The discussion was geared around the curriculum guidelines and concerns were brought up regarding the literature that was used in teaching this curriculum.  A main concern was the letter that was distributed to parents telling them about the curriculum.  A exemption is not included on the letter for the parents to exempt their child from taking this class.  There was also discussion of placing the curriculum on the internet for parents to view before their child takes this class and even have a parent information night to give the parents an opportunity to review the curriculum and ask questions.  A letter will be updated with an exemption line for parents to sign and return to the school.

3.         High School Health Curriculum

Voted:  On motion by Mrs. Lopes for the Health Curriculum for the High School be referred to the Curriculum Subcommittee for review.

Hand vote – 4 present in favor – 1 absent – and the motion PASSED.
